GLP-1 at a Glance
What is a GLP-1 Medication?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications that slow digestion, reduce appetite, and help regulate blood sugar. Originally developed for type 2 diabetes, several are now FDA-approved specifically for weight loss.
They’re not a shortcut – they work best alongside diet and lifestyle changes. But for patients who qualify, the weight loss data is significant: the clinical trials for semaglutide showed an average of 15% body weight reduction over 68 weeks.
Full GLP-1 ExplainerFDA-approved vs Compounded – What’s the Difference?
FDA-approved GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic) are manufactured by Novo Nordisk or Eli Lilly under strict quality control. Compounded versions use the same active ingredient but are prepared by compounding pharmacies without the same regulatory oversight.
Compounded is usually cheaper: about $99 to $289 a month at the providers we’ve reviewed, compared with about $199 to $499 a month for brand-name self-pay programs such as NovoCare and LillyDirect. The tradeoff is regulatory certainty, and cold-chain shipping matters more with compounded.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is The Cheapest GLP-1 Telehealth Provider In 2026?
Among the six providers we’ve reviewed, SkinnyRx and Eden have the lowest semaglutide prices. SkinnyRx charges $99 for the first month of injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide (later months are priced at checkout), and Eden lists $99 a month at every dose. Strut Health’s oral semaglutide lozenge starts at $99/month, and bmiMD’s injectable semaglutide is $119/month on a 12-month plan. Across all 30+ providers on our comparison page, the lowest advertised price is Wellmedr’s $49/month sale on compounded semaglutide. Prices change often, so we recheck them monthly.
Is Compounded Semaglutide Safe?
Compounded semaglutide uses the same active ingredient as FDA-approved Ozempic and Wegovy but is not FDA-approved itself. Safety depends heavily on the compounding pharmacy. We only review providers using licensed sterile compounding pharmacies or FDA-licensed 503(b) outsourcing facilities. Red flags include providers who don’t disclose their pharmacy, medications arriving without cold-chain packaging, and no licensed physician involved in prescribing. The FDA has issued warning letters to several telehealth platforms for misleading marketing — we track these in our reviews.
Do I Need Insurance To Get A GLP-1 Prescription Online?
No. All six providers we’ve reviewed accept cash-pay patients. But if you have health insurance, it may cover brand-name GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound) significantly reducing your cost. Found Weight Loss works with most major insurance plans and can handle prior authorization for brand-name GLP-1s. For cash-pay compounded options, no insurance is needed or accepted.
What’S The Difference Between Semaglutide And Tirzepatide?
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist (targets one pathway). Tirzepatide is a dual GLP-1/GIP agonist (targets two). In clinical trials, tirzepatide produced greater average weight loss (20–22% body weight vs 15% for semaglutide), but it’s also more expensive. Most patients start with compounded semaglutide and switch to tirzepatide if they need stronger effects or aren’t seeing results. Tirzepatide also tends to have a more pronounced reduction in food noise and cravings.
What Does Legitscript Certification Mean And Why Does It Matter?
LegitScript is an independent company that verifies online healthcare providers operate legally and safely. Certification requires background checks on ownership, state licensing verification, and compliance with pharmacy standards. It’s not a guarantee of quality — but uncertified providers have no accountability structure. Of our reviewed providers, SkinnyRx, Strut Health, and bmiMD are LegitScript certified. We flag certification status on every review.
How Long Does It Take To See Results On GLP-1?
Most patients notice appetite suppression within 2 – 4 weeks. Meaningful weight loss (5–10 lbs) typically appears by week 8–12 at effective doses. Clinical trials ran 68 weeks to measure full results — GLP-1 is a long-term treatment, not a short-term fix. Results vary significantly by starting dose, dose escalation, diet changes, and the individual patient’s response. Patients who don’t see results at 0.5mg semaglutide often respond at 1.0mg or higher.
Can I Switch GLP-1 Providers Without Losing Progress?
Yes. Your prescription and medication history don’t lock you to one provider. You can request your records and bring them to a new telehealth platform. Some providers (like SkinnyRx) allow switching medication formats within the same plan. The one caveat: if you have an active subscription, check the cancellation policy carefully — some charge a $50 fee after pharmacy processing, and a few make cancellation harder than it should be.
How Do You Decide Which Providers to Review?
We only publish reviews for providers where we have enough data to give an honest, fully-sourced assessment. That means verified Trustpilot volume, confirmed pricing from the provider’s own site, BBB complaint analysis, and research into their pharmacy partnerships and regulatory status. We currently have affiliate agreements with all six reviewed providers — these are disclosed in every review, but affiliate status never affects our scores.
